Ann Germani | The Green Bike Series
Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba 710 Rosser Avenue, Unit 2, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada
Ann Germani makes her home in Brandon, but over the years she has lived in or visited many different parts of Canada. Much of that travelling has involved playing the harps, which she has spent decades schlepping across the country to various gigs.
During the pandemic, when travel was restricted, she created a virtual experience to sate her desire to travel and play the harp. This project, the Green Bike Series, was inspired by her travels to family and friends on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. It incorporates photography, drawing, and original music.
No trip to Cape Breton would be complete without biking the Celtic Shores Costal Trail. The 92-kilometer multi-use trail, stretching from Port Hastings to Inverness on the west coast of Cape Breton Island, is a converted railway bed from the days when steam engines transported coal from the inland mines. Today, the trail meanders along the coast before turning inland, following rivers and hillsides, lakes and valley.
The beauty of nature and the exhilaration of a good day's bike ride are inspiration for creating reminiscences of these trips through art and music. The Green Bike Series consists of twelve bike rides, their titles reflective of places and views along a particular part of the trail. For each drawing, Germani will perform her original compositions for harp, evoking images of this scenic trail.
