Heart and Soul - Piano
Welcome to
The Music Studio Piano Room!
Did you know?
That this piece of music was written by Hoagy Carmichael - an American musician often described as the "most talented, inventive, sophisticated and jazz-oriented of all the great craftsmen" of pop songs in the first half of the 20th Century!
That this is great to play as a duet, or with as many players that can get their fingers on a piano, as possible! For more fun, teach the different parts to your family and friends.
Let’s Get Started!
Learn the Bass Line - C A F G - repeat lots!
Add some chords in the Right Hand - "Root Position Triads"
Play Solid (all at once)
Play Broken in "Swing Time" - say the words, "Green Banana" to get the rhythm!
Try playing the Bass Line with the RH chords
Add the melody, and sing along!
Own it!
How will you play it? Try different ways
soft, loud, really soft to really loud or vice versa
staccato or legato
slow, fast, then start slowly and speed up to crash and burn fast!
Try changing the rhythm of the RH chord part to match the words, “pink elephant”, or make up your own favourite animal to play along to!
Try playing the melody in unison, with two hands
Change up and improvise on the RH melody - keep "snippets" of the main tune, wander away with your own melody, and come home once in awhile!
